Purpose of the ISBC
The International Society for Bioluminescence and Chemiluminescence serves to promote the fundamental and applied sciences of bio- and chemi-luminescence throughout the world.
The ISBC aims at facilitating and promoting interactions between academic, governmental, and industrial scientists in the field of chemiluminescence and bioluminescence to help transfer technologies and, thus, advance the field
The ISBC has three principle aims:
To organize and co-ordinate conferences and workshops through out the world.
To contribute to the world debate on the stability of ecosystems, particularly those where bioluminescence plays a major role, and where chemiluminescence technology has analytical potential.
To promote public understanding of science and engage the community by organizing and supporting educational and natural history-based initiatives and activities targeted at K-12 schools and the lay public.
Specific Objectives of the ISBC
To organize small local meetings, conferences, and workshops throughout the world in order to discuss and disseminate new information about bioluminescence and chemiluminescence.
To organize the biennial International Symposium on Bioluminescence and Chemiluminescence.
To promote conservation of luminous species throughout the world and encourage natural history projects providing new information on their distribution and biology.
To promote the application of bioluminescence and chemiluminescence in education and foster the public's understanding of science.
To provide a forum to facilitate interactions between academics of different disciplines and industry for research in bioluminescence and chemiluminescence.
To provide a forum for standardization of nomenclature and units of measurement.
To provide a mechanism for interaction between the subjects of bioluminescence and chemiluminescence and other scientific disciplines, particularly other professional societies.
